First official meeting for the project ‘Climate Finance Assessment of West Bengal’

June 5, 2025 | Kolkata

This World Environment Day was a moment of immense pride and responsibility for The Celestial Earth, as our leadership actively contributed to two significant climate-focused initiatives in Kolkata, furthering our mission of environmental stewardship and policy innovation.

Our Founder & CEO, Dr. Tania Ray Bhattacharya, and Executive Director, Dr. Anindya Bhattacharya, participated in the first official meeting of the 'Climate Finance Assessment of West Bengal.' The session was chaired by Shri Prabhat Mishra, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance), Government of West Bengal, and convened by Shri Pawan Kadyan, Senior Special Secretary (Finance), Government of West Bengal.

As part of this initiative, The Celestial Earth is offering strategic guidance in blended climate finance planning, supporting West Bengal’s integrated approach to climate mitigation and adaptation. This project signifies an essential step toward unlocking sustainable finance mechanisms tailored for the state’s unique socio-environmental context.

On the same day, Dr. Tania Bhattacharya and Dr. Anindya Bhattacharya also took part in the launch of the Kolkata Climate Action Plan (KCAP), inaugurated by the Hon’ble Mayor, Shri Firhad Hakim. Organized collaboratively by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), EnGio, and CANSA, this event marked the formal introduction of KCAP—a critical roadmap to a climate-resilient Kolkata.

These engagements reflect our deepening collaboration with state and municipal governance in addressing climate change at both policy and implementation levels.

At The Celestial Earth, we are honored to contribute to such transformative initiatives that reaffirm our commitment to sustainable futures—for West Bengal, for India, and for the planet.
