The Celestial Earth Announces Research Publication in Energy Sources, Part B: Economics, Planning, and Policy
The Celestial Earth announces the publication of a research paper co-authored by Executive Director, Dr. Anindya Bhattacharya, titled "Decarbonizing Odisha's Economy: Regional CGE–MESSAGEix Analysis of a Coal-Rich Indian State," in the peer-reviewed journal Energy Sources, Part B: Economics, Planning, and Policy.
The study presents India's first state-level Integrated Assessment Model (IAM) for Odisha, linking Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) and MESSAGEix models to evaluate low-carbon development pathways for a coal-rich Indian state.
The research demonstrates that strategic green investments can reduce greenhouse gas emissions while supporting economic growth, employment generation, energy security, and sustainable development. The integrated modelling framework provides valuable insights to support evidence-based climate and energy policy at the state level.
The paper was co-authored by researchers from the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) and collaborating institutions.
